Xavi Ferrer is a member of the extensive noble Ferrer family of Oriente. The Ferrers trace their heritage all the way back to the city of Barcelona on Terra. The Ferrer family collectively owns the majority of olive groves on Oriente and are the major producers of olive oil for the Duchy as a whole. They also have a long history of serving in the Fusiliers of Oriente.
Unfortunately, Xavi comes from a black sheep branch of the family. His father, Ferdinando, was particularly vocal in his opinion that the Halas family was too closely linked to the Marik and that the Duchy of Oriente needed to develop more independence from the League. Although Xavi was more moderate in his positions and far less political in his ambitions, his father’s perceived disloyalty greatly hurt his career. After graduating from the Princefield academy, Xavi failed to earn a billet in the Fusiliers of Oriente and instead was relegated to the Ninth Marik Militia. He convinced himself that with a good showing he could be promoted back to the Fusiliers. However, despite evidence of strong tactical prowess, Xavi failed to gain promotion and after nineteen years of service was only a Lieutenant in charge of a single lance in the same Ninth Marik Militia. Disgusted, Xavi turned in his commission and decided to go mercenary.
After selling his family’s remaining property to a cousin and cobbling together a force from his family’s personal guard (as well as his own lance from the Ninth, who all chose to follow him), Ferrer headed to Outreach to secure his new command’s first contract.
Xavier is a born nobleman. He has fine tastes and always keeps a well-stocked wine cellar aboard his dropship. When not in the field, he enjoys fine wine, fine food, high culture, and women. However, one would be making a mistake to think him a mere “social general.” He has a keen tactical mind and is 100% focused on the mission when in the field. His men trust him implicitly.
