Girard is a freeborn Smoke Jaguar mechwarrior who was made a bondsman when his PGC unit fell to the Company on Hyner.

Although he is a freebirth, Girard fully adopted the typical arrogant Smoke Jaguar attitude and his integration into the Company was difficult. This all came to ahead on Bryant when, due to his unfamiliarity with single heat sinks, he overheated his Griffin GRF-1N mech and set off an ammo explosion that destroyed the machine. While he ejected from the machine, he was forced to live down the humiliation of destroying his own mech. In the long run, however, the incident seemed to tame his attitude and the constant ribbing from his fellow soldiers ultimately helped him to integrate with the Company.
