Boyd French signed on with the Company after the Jameson gang contract in the Taurian Concordat. While rumors circulate about some members of the Company being former pirates, there is no question of this in Boyd French. He is quite open about his piratical past. Orphaned at a young age by a pirate attack, he was sold into slavery and ended up as a child labor in the workshop of a pirate gang in the periphery. After discovering his skill with a mech, the members of the pirate gang offered him training and he eventually became a member of the gang. However, French never forgot the pirates who had killed his family. He eventually became the leader of his pirate gang and used them to find and annhilate the other gang. He was the only survivor.

French is taciturn and cold, and when he talks about his experiences as a pirate, it tends to send shivers up other people’s spines. He is not very popular to sit within in the cantina, but his skills and experience as a mechwarrior are irrefutable.
