Contract TC-41236-004-1

Pirate Hunting
Location: Aea
Employer: Taurian Concordat
Start Date: 02 June 3054
End Date: 02 January 3055
Status: Success

A pirate group known as the Jameson Gang has been aggressively raiding both Taurian and Capellan worlds from an unknown periphery base. The Gang, run by three brothers named Jesse, Ian, and Jarvis, is believed to consist of roughly two companies of older battlemechs. The Taurians have hired the Company to search out these pirates and annhilate them, offering an additional two million C-bill reward for each Jameson, dead or alive.

Interestingly, the Capellans were offering a similar contract, but with far fewer fringe benefits.

Gotcha

The Taurians have developed an elaborate ploy to draw out the Jameson Gang. Through unofficial channels, they have let a rumor spread about a poorly defended cache of expensive military equipment on Aea. The cache is real, but it is guarded by the Company who were covertly brought on-planet.

It took nearly two months for the Gang to take the bait, but a mech company finally touched down on planet led by Jarvis Jameson, intent on swatting aside the defenders and claiming their loot. Not so fast…

After-Action Report

Surrounding the Gang from all sides, the Company demolished the pirates, capturing Jarvis Jameson alive. Only two pirates evaded capture and made it back to their dropship. However, the Taurians failed to bring the fleeing dropship down and the only prisoner who knew the exact location of the pirate hideout was Jameson himself, and he wasn’t talking. However, one of the other prisoners was able to confirm that the hideout was only two jumps away from Aea. Now the hunt is on.

Threeway

It took almost 4 months, but Taurian intelligence finally tracked the Jameson Gang to a remote, uninhabited system two jumps from Aea. The real breakthrough came when they tracked down a prospector who had made claims of discovering a star league era bunker on an uninhabited desert planet a few years ago. Apparently, the bunker had access to fresh water resources and fusion power. Unfortunately, the prospector had been killed under suspicious circumstances, but his widow had kept the information.

The Company was in-transit to the planet to finish the job when a vessel jumped into system and deployed a dropship that began to burn in at 1.5 Gs. It turned out to be a disreputable mercenary company named Song’s Sentinels, who must have paid off somebody in the Taurian bureaucracy for the planetary information, so that they could jump the Company’s claims to the bounty. After thinly-veiled threats to turn back, the Sentinels cut off all communications. It looks like clean up on this job just got a lot messier.

After-Action Report

As the Company moved to engage the pirates from the south, Song’s Sentinels moved to engage from the west, although they held back to allow the other two principals to weaken each other first. Colonel Ferrer ordered that the Company should not fire at the Sentinels unless fired upon, which occured when half the Sentinels tried to flank the Company. While the mechanized infantry platoons and half of the armor company held off the flankers, the rest of the Company assaulted Jameson’s Gang. They managed to kill Jesse Jameson himself, but four mechs, including Ian Jameson managed to flee. Too concerned about the Sentinels on his flank, Colonel Ferrer chose not to pursue and instead turned all his forces (and his fury) against the Sentinels. Despite being beat up by their prior engagement. The Company ripped through Song’s Sentinels, killing their commander in the process.

Upon questioning some of the pirates, the Company learned that the Jameson brothers kept a supply cache on an in-system moon, and that Ian was likely headed there. The Company quickly lifted off and moved to intercept.

Buried Treasure

Status: Victory

After three hectic days of makeshift repairs, the Company was ready to field two makeshift lances of mechs. Using the moon itself for cover, the Company was able to surprise the remaining Gang as they were unloading equipment from the supply cache.

After-Action Report

Assault dropping onto the pirates’ positions, the Company mechs made short work of them in the vacuum environment.
