Defend the LZ

Status: Victory

As the VTOLs sped back to the LZ with the asset, the rest of the Company received word that a trinary of Smoke Jags was inbound. They would need to hold them off at least long enough for the asset to be secured. Tension was thick as the Company prepared to face against the Clans for the first time.

After-Action Report

In the end, it turned out to be a fairly easy victory. The use of combined arm tactics, LRM delivered minefields, and artillery proved more than a match for the clan trinary. The minefields crippled two medium mechs early in the fight and the assault mechs were constantly harried by the artillery fire in combination with TAG from VTOLs and hovercraft. After losing half the force, including the star captain, the remaining star commander accepted hegira and retired from the field. The company’s losses were minimal, although they did suffer some infantry casualties and they lost rookie mechwarrior Freddy Gurjovic to a head shot. In return, they were able to claim valuable clan tech salvage as well as several bondsmen.

Extraction

Status: Victory

After a quick two day burn-in, the Company made landfall near the town where the asset was believed to reside. While in transit, the local Clan commander issued a batchall, but this was ignored. Atmospheric entry and touch down were uncontested.

Mobile units were sent to quickly extract the asset, while the remainder of the Company set up a defensive perimeter around the drop zone and prepared to defend it as necessary.

After-Action Report

As the Company approached the town, they received notification from HQ that a Smoke Jag light mech star was rapidly closing on the town. While the Pinto VTOLs dropped in two squads of jump recon infantry, the Pegasus hovers and a lance of mechs attempted to hold off the clan star. Although they had the advantage of numbers, they were disadvantaged by tech and experience, even when facing second line mechs. Combined missile fire from the hovers managed to bring down one of the Locust IICs, but Theopaunus’s Crab went down and Boyd French’s Komodo was also brought down as he attempted to hold off the star to allow the rest of the unit to evacuate. A heavily injured Theopaunus was recovered by one of the hovers, but French was captured.

Despite, the setbacks and losses, the mission objectives were accomplished and the pinto VTOL streaked back to the landing zone with the asset.
